It is enlarged, tense, and mottled. The wall is thickened, oedematous and hyperaemic, or green/black in gangrenous cholecystitis. There are usually gallstones and sometimes pus or mucosal perforation.

Abdominal pain of less than one weeks duration requiring admission to hospital, which has not been previously investigated or treated.
Wiper, general, system, inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation, contemplation (osler, canadian turn of 19c physician, father of modern med) gen (acc, appearance, sex, ethnicity, bmi, wrist band?, Jaccolt fdm, condition, alert, orientated, cofortable, sob, clues from environment, connections etc, obs chart, temp,pulse,bp,o2, sats, normal?, Stable?, Trend is your friend. Clubbing, cyanosis, anaemia (pallor of conjunctiva), jaundice (yellowing of sclera), ln's (lymphadenopathy), thyroid (inspect/palpate/swallow/auscultate), peripheral oedema (also foetor and hair, hirsuite, alopecia, and skin, rash, spider naevi, scratch marks, spot diagnoses etc) (or 3, 3's: 3 colours â€“ blue, yellow, pallor, 3 swellings â€“ ln, ao, thyroid, 3rd world â€“ fever, dehydration, malnourishment) (incidentally â€“ the 3 glands we prefer not examine: breasts, prostate, testicles) thank pt. and conclude.
