Scene 1: At the Highway 97 Diner
Narrator: Bill and Tom, business partners, seat themselves in a booth next to the front window to discuss their failing carpet business.
Bill: Tom, we need to discuss our inventory, but let’s order first.
Narrator: Both men look through the menu as more and more people come into the diner. They sit either at the counter or at one of the booths near the windows.
Tom: I think I am going to order a cheeseburger and fries. What about you?
Bill: I’m going to get the special, meatloaf with mashed potatoes.
Narrator: The server approaches the men’s table.
Server: May I take your order, gentlemen?
Narrator: Just as Bill and Tom are looking at the server to tell her their order, a loud crash sounds from the parking lot just outside the diner. Everyone turns to look out the window. A small sedan has been hit by a pick-up truck and lies on its side. For an instant everyone freezes. Then several people including Bill and Tom run out of the diner to assess the situation.

Scene 2: Outside the Highway 97 Diner
Narrator: Bill reaches the sedan first. He peers in and sees someone hurt.
Bill: Ma’am please open the door. I can help you.
Narrator: Bill pounds on the door. The woman seems dazed.
Tom: Somebody call 9-1-1.
Narrator: Bill pries open the door and the woman looks for help.
Bill: Are you hurt? Take my hand.
Tom (yelling): An ambulance is on its way.
Bill: Ma’am, please stay put.
Woman: I think I hurt my neck.
Bill: Try to keep your neck still.
Woman: Okay.
Bill: The ambulance will be here soon.
Narrator: The ambulance arrives and removes the woman from the car and takes her to the hospital.

Scene 3: Inside the Diner
Narrator: Both men walk back into the diner feeling happy that they could help a woman in distress. They go back to their booth.
Bill: Don’t you feel good to have helped somebody?
Tom: I sure do. I think I could help somebody every day. I felt very calm and knew what to do.
Bill: Me too.
Narrator: Bill has an idea.
Bill: Maybe we should change careers. We started this carpet business over a year ago and it is costing us more money than producing money. I’m not even happy putting in carpet.
Tom: I agree, but we should have an idea of what career we should be heading in to.
Bill: I do and we just did it. We could be EMTs. We could be trained while we are closing our carpet business. Then we could get right to work helping people.
Tom: Where do I sign up?"
