Window: UPSC/State PSC • SSC/Bank/RRB • MBA/CUET • Placement Aptitude
Components: Static GK • Current Affairs (last 6–12 months) • Data & Reports • Map/Places • Govt Schemes/Policies

Must-do (80/20 coverage)

National Polity & Governance

  • Constitution basics, institutions (Parliament, SC, EC, CAG), federalism/co-op federalism, elections, RTI, data protection, key recent Acts & rules.

Economy & Social Sector

  • Budget/Economic Survey themes, inflation/monetary & fiscal policy, unemployment metrics, poverty & welfare, GST, DBT, financial inclusion, infrastructure.

Science & Tech

  • Space (missions, launch vehicles), Defence tech, biotech/genetics, AI/cyber, energy (renewables, storage), health (vaccines, AMR), environment tech.

Environment & Geography

  • Climate treaties & COPs, protected areas/National Parks, endangered species, disasters, rivers/interlinking, pollution rules, EIA.

International Relations

  • Summits (G7/G20/BRICS/SCO), neighbourhood, major conflicts/accords, important agreements, global supply chains.

Reports/Indices & Organizations

  • Who publishes what (HDR, WEF, EoDB legacy, CPI, WGI, SDG Index), UN bodies, Bretton Woods, WHO/FAO/UNESCO/ILO, Indian think-tanks.

Govt Schemes & Committees

  • Flagship schemes (aim, ministry, target group, benefits, year), new missions, committees/panels (chair + purpose).

People/Places in News

  • Awards, sports winners, books/authors, new GI tags, new UNESCO sites, renamings, important days & themes.

Top traps (avoid)

  • Date drift: quoting last year’s data as “latest”.
  • Look-alike schemes/indices (swap of ministry or publisher).
  • Scope shift: global rank vs sub-index rank vs score.
  • Units & currency misses (bn vs lakh-crore; ppm vs ppb).
  • Map mix-ups: park/state mismatch; river tributary direction.
  • Assertion–Reason: treating correlation as causation.
  • Old names/acronyms: legacy programme names after revamps.

Time split (weekly study)

  • Daily (45–60 min): news sift + notes + 20 MCQs.
  • Twice weekly (45 min): schemes & reports drill.
  • Weekly (90 min): issue deep-dive (editorial + PRS/official brief) → 200-word summary.
  • Weekend (60–90 min): map/places + revise capsule + full mixed test (50–100 Q).

Last-48h checklist

  • Revise 6–12 month capsule (your notes only).
  • Schemes ring: ministry, launch year, target, benefit mode, similar scheme it’s not.
  • Reports/Indices table: publisher → indicator → India rank/score trend (no guesswork).
  • Maps: 20 Q (parks, rivers, passes, biosphere reserves, new UNESCO/ GI).
  • One-liners: 200 quick facts (awards, committees, days & themes).
  • 2 timed mixed sets (negative-mark aware).

Source strategy (smart, light, consistent)

  • Primary/official first: Press releases/Ministries, PIB; PRS for bill/policy notes; RBI/SEBI for finance; Survey/Budget highlights.
  • One national daily + one explainer source for context.
  • One monthly magazine/capsule to consolidate (don’t hoard).
  • Global facts: UN/World Bank/IMF/OECD dashboards; WHO fact sheets.
Rule: Read less, extract more → convert to your notes within 24h.

Note-making format (2–3 lines each)

[Tag] Title — Date

  • What changed / What it is: one sentence.
  • Why it matters: exam-angle (ministry/sector/data point).
  • One stat/name/map hook.
Tags to use: [Polity] [Eco] [SciTech] [Env] [IR] [Scheme] [Report] [Places] [Awards] [Sports] [Culture] [Misc]

Quick frames & mini-toolkit

VERIFY news items

  • Version/date, Entity (who said), Reporter bias, Indicator (unit, base), Fact vs opinion, Yardstick (compare with past/peers).

Index/Report card

  • Publisher → Indicator measured → Coverage (countries/years) → India rank and score → Trend (↑/↓) → Caveat.

Scheme card

  • Ministry → Launch (year) → Objective → Target group → Funding pattern → Delivery (portal/DBT) → Overlaps/mergers.

Map drill

  • Locate → neighbouring states/countries → river/biome → nearest protected area → one current affair attached.

Static + Current fuse

  • For every current item, add one static hook (e.g., new Ramsar site → wetland types + criteria).

Question types & how to attack

  • One-liners/Match-the: recall via your cards; kill options by ministry/publisher mismatch.
  • Assertion–Reason: test truth and linkage; both true but not linked ⇒ (C).
  • Statement MCQ (1/2/3): mark extremes; prefer statements with scope qualifiers.
  • Map Qs: trace with finger; use elimination by region/biome.
  • Data Qs: read unit & base year first; check if rank or score is asked.

Memory & revision hacks

  • Spaced repetition: 1–3–7–21 day cycles; small daily queue (≤60 cards).
  • Cloze deletions: “Publisher of World Happiness Report is ____.”
  • Story & loci: place 5 facts on a familiar route.
  • Chunking numbers: 3–3–2 (e.g., 1.23 456 78).
  • Confusables list: twin schemes/indices parked together.

Speed tactics (during test)

  • Harvest static GK first (quick points).
  • For uncertain CA, prefer options with precise qualifiers over vague claims.
  • If two options differ only by ministry/publisher/date, decide from your card; else skip (protect negatives).
  • On data Qs, eliminate by impossible units/magnitude.
  • Mark and move any item you can’t justify in 20–25 seconds.

Exam-day mini-plan

  • 3-min warm-up: 20 rapid one-liners from your ring.
  • Pass-1: finish sure static + obvious CA (≤35–40% time).
  • Pass-2: schemes/reports/maps; keep 10–12 min buffer.
  • Final pass: re-read EXCEPT/NOT stems; audit guesses with VERIFY.

Practice cycle (weekly)

  1. Diagnose: 100-Q mixed set; tag errors: [Date] [Publisher] [Ministry] [Units] [Map] [Scheme detail] [Static].
  2. Deep fix: convert misses into cards (scheme/index/map).
  3. Retest: 50-Q fresh set; aim for fewer repeat tags.
  4. Summarize: 1-page weekly capsule (10–12 bullets + 1 mini-map + 1 scheme card + 1 report card).
