The polar moment of inertia is a measure of an object's capacity to oppose or resist torsion when some amount of torque is applied to it on a specified axis. Torsion is the twisting of an object due to an applied torque. 
The radius of gyration of a body is defined as the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to the point of mass whose mass is equal to the mass of the whole body.
