The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that heat always moves from hotter objects to colder objects (or "downhill"), unless energy in some form is supplied to reverse the direction of heat flow.

This basically means that any isolated system's entropy always increases. Isolated systems evolve spontaneously towards thermal equilibrium— the system's state of maximum entropy. This also means that Universe entropy (the ultimate isolated system) only increases and never decreases.
