Peter and John are at the same position on the ground. Peter is facing NE. John is facing SE. If Peter turns clockwise through 135°, what angle must John turn through to face in the same direction as Peter?

There are 90o (a quarter turn) between the cardinal compass points of North, East, South and West. But there are 45o (an eighth of a turn) between the cardinal points and the intercardinal ones of NE, SE, SW and NW.

NE falls between North and East; SE falls between South and East; SW falls between South and West; and NW falls between North and West.
