Introduction

Engineering mechanics is a branch of engineering that studies the behavior of physical systems under the influence of forces. It involves the study of forces and their effects on matter, and the use of this knowledge to design and analyze structures, machines, and other systems.
Engineering mechanics is a fundamental subject in many engineering disciplines, including aerospace, civil, and mechanical engineering. It plays a critical role in designing and analyzing structures and machines, ensuring that they are safe, reliable, and efficient.

Engineering mechanics is divided into two parts:
Mechanics of Solids
Mechanics of Fluids

The three main branches of engineering mechanics are:
Statics
Dynamics
Strength of Materials (SOM)

Statics is the study of methods for quantifying the forces between bodies. It deals with the condition of bodies in equilibrium subjected to external forces.

Dynamics is a branch of mechanics that deals with the study of bodies in motion. It is divided into two branches called kinematics and kinetics.
Kinetics: Deals with the forces acting on moving bodies
Kinematics: Deals with the motion of the bodies without any reference to forces responsible for the motion
