There are four content areas in UK Politics:
1. Democracy and participation
2. Political parties
3. Electoral systems
4. Voting behaviour and the media.

Parliament is sovereign in the UK, the judiciary is a subordinate body - The Judges are in no position to defy the the will of Parliament and regardless of if they did, Parliament is omnicompetent meaning they have the power to repeal any decision - No matter how much a judge disagrees with a law they must enforce it - Judges have to take into account the wishes of Parliament when interpreting law, they must determine not only what the law means but what Parliament intended the law to mean
1. Representatives are more likely to adopt a rational approach and resist emotional reactions 2. Elected politicians have an army of well-informed advisors who can help them make decisions, therefore they make decisions based on concrete evidence and information rather than simply the media 3. Elected representatives are able to mediate between majority and minority interests, whereas voters only need to consider their own interests 4. It is hoped that representatives have better judgement than even ourselves, although many are questioning whether or not this is really the case
1. No dominant majorities- Since 2010 there has not been a dominant government majority, this is partly due to the emergence of a multi-party system and the split in the conservative party 2. Military control - In recent years Parliament has insisted in taking control of UK military intervention, this is largely a legacy of the failed policy in Iraq after 2003 -> since Parliament has demanded it approves military intervention 3. HOL - The HOL has become increasingly important and obstructive since 1999, measure which are not subject to the Salisbury convention are vunerable to problems in their passage through the Lords 4. DSCs - The Departmental Select Committees and the Public Accounts Committee in the HOC, led by powerful chairpersons have become increasinly aggressive and intrusive 5. Backbench business - The Backbench Business Committee now controls part of the government parliamentary agenda - The backbench members now control the membership of select committees, greatly improving their willingness to challenge government
Members of class AB are much more likely to vote relative to DE - 2017 AB -> 69% turnout - 2017 DE -> 53% turnout - So combining voting preferences with turnout figures, we can see that the Labour Party are at an undeniable disadvantage as the people most likely to support them are the least likely to turnout and vote - The reason for this is likely voter disillusionment within the class of DE - The classes inbetween tend to be inbetween in terms of turnout too
