Max slept on the couch. He owned it or at least he thought he did. Every day, Max would crawl up on the couch in the family room around 2 p.m. for his mid-afternoon nap. His tail would always curl around him and his paws were straight forward. His head would rest on one of his paws. Once Max’s head was down on the couch, it would only take a matter of thirty seconds before Max was fast asleep.

One day Max’s owner, Little Timmy, was playing with his toys on the floor. Max, of course, was drooling while he slept on his “big bed.” Timmy heard an unusual sound coming from the couch behind him. Timmy whirled around. He saw Max with his eyes closed and his legs moving slightly back and forth. Every so often, Max would bark in his sleep. Timmy laughed. He had never seen Max running in his sleep.

“Get that squirrel, Max,” Timmy said quietly to Max.
