For Stevens - Our Interpretation Depends Upon Our Imagination. In 'notes Towards And Supreme Fiction' - His Image Of The Sun Is Best In Describing This. We Can Best See The Sun In Our 'idea Of It' Because Obviously We Cannot See It With The Naked Eye. This Presents The Contradiction Of Life: Reality Is Our Perception Of It. So Why Not Use Our Imagination - If That Is All We Are Really Using Anyway?
Stevens Remarks - 'i Dislike Niggling - And Prefer Letting Myself Go'. The Form And Meter Of The Poem Reflect Exactly This. Stevens Wants Us To Read Is Poems Like The Easy - Everyday - Instead Of Being Caught Up And Fumbling Around The Form. There Is Thus Something Liberating About The Simplicity Of His Lines.
