For example, here are some tips for welding cast aluminum:
Prepare the weld area by removing any defects and oxide layers with a brush or solvent.
Preheat the area to improve welding results. The usual range is 212–572°F (100–300°C).
Use a weld rod that matches the chemistry of the casting or an approved substitute.
Dress the weld back to the part contour after welding.
Heat treat the casting after welding. Heat treatment eliminates residual stress and ensures that mechanical properties are met.
