60 to 80 feet and beyond.
When you are attempting to maximize the DOF with crime scene ranging from 5' to 30', the most effective way to do this is to focus at a distance that appears to be midway between the top and the bottom of the composed image.
It resets the ISO speed to 'fool' the camera so an exposure change will be made. Ex. When the exposure compensation dial is set to +1, the ISO setting is actually reset from 100 to 50. Even though the camera 'thinks' it's set to 50, its actually still set to 100, resulting in a +1 exposure.
Wider apertures result in narrower DOF ranges; smaller apertures result in progressively longer DOF ranges
