Mechanical properties of matter are used to classify and identify materials. Some common mechanical properties include: strength, ductility, hardness, impact resistance, and fracture toughness.

Other properties of matter include:
Physical properties:
These include mass, volume, density, color, hardness, melting and boiling points, and electrical conductivity.
Chemical properties: These include reactivity, flammability, ability to rust, toxicity, acidity, and heat of combustion.
