A carburetor is a device that mixes fuel and air for internal combustion engines. It's also known as the "heart" of an automobile. 

A carburetor's components include:
A storage chamber for liquid fuel
A choke
An idling jet
A main jet
A venturi-shaped air-flow restriction
An accelerator pump 

Carburetors mix the components in the right amounts so the combustion process can occur. They pass the mixture of fuel and air to the intake manifold, which delivers the mixture to the cylinders. 
Carburetors were used for many years until the introduction of electronically controlled fuel-injection systems.

There are three basic types of carburetors: street legal, high performance street/strip, and race-only carbs.
