Ambulatory monitors are devices that record the electrical activity of your heart over a longer period of time. They can be used to detect heart rhythm problems, and can be taken home with you.
Two common types of ambulatory monitors are:
Holter monitors:
These are small, wearable devices that record your heart's rhythm over 24–48 hours. They are a type of portable electrocardiogram (ECG). Holter monitors are used to detect or determine the risk of irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias).
Ambulatory telemetry monitors (ATMs): These are another common type of ambulatory monitor.
Pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) can also be used as continuous monitoring devices.

Arrhythmia monitoring refers to tests physicians use to identify the type and the cause of irregular heart rhythms. Arrhythmias are changes in the heart's normal rate or rhythm.
