Patient monitoring systems are machines or equipment that constantly monitor patients through vital signs and warning systems. They measure, record, and display patient parameters like heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and blood oxygen saturation.

Common patient monitoring devices include:
Thermometer:
Tracks a patient's temperature
Pulse oximeter: Measures oxygen levels
Capnography machine: Monitors CO2 levels
Sphygmomanometer: Assesses blood pressure

There are two types of patient monitoring systems:
Bedside patient monitoring systems

Also known as hospital patient monitoring systems, these are used in hospitals to monitor patients in ER and intensive care settings.

Remote patient monitoring systems
These allow providers to monitor, report, and analyze their patient's conditions from outside the hospital or clinic setting.

Topics include: System Concepts, Cardiac Monitor, Bedside Patient Monitoring, Central Monitors, Heart Rate Measurement, Temperature Measurement, Measuring Respiration Rate, & Catheterization Laboratory.
