1. Bacteria multiply and may cause turbidity and a positive protein reaction. 2. Bacteria convert urea to ammonia, which increases pH. 3. Bacteria metabolize glucose. 4. RBCs lyse in dilute or alkaline urine. 5. Casts lyse in alkaline urine. 6. RBCs disintegrate 7. Bilirubin/urobilinogen are lost through exposure to light and/or oxidation. 8. Ketones are lost through evaporation.
