Qualitative analysis of organic compounds is done to detect the presence of various elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and halogen elements. Some of the most commonly occurring elements in organic compounds are carbon, hydrogen, sulfur, nitrogen and halogen elements.

Qualitative analysis vs quantitative analysis: Qualitative analysis  measures changes in melting point, color, odor, radioactivity, reactivity, bubble production, boiling point and precipitation. Quantitative analysis  determines the number of elements or molecules produced during a chemical reaction.

Qualitative Analysis Tests include: Preliminary Tests, Physical Properties Detection, Analysis of Elements, Solubility Tests, & Group Classification Tests.
