Application Layer topics include: Application layer, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, ipsecurity, virtual private networks, SML, SNMP and Telnet.

An application layer is a component of an application that controls how it communicates with other devices. It's the top-most layer in the OSI Model and is used for establishing process-to-process communication and user services in a network.

The application layer specifies the shared communication protocols and interface methods used by hosts in a communications network. It's the layer closest to the end-user, implying that the application layer and the end-user can interact directly with the software application.

Here are some examples of application layer protocols:
HTTP:
An application layer protocol designed to transfer information between networked devices. HTTP is widely used for transmitting data over the internet, and it is the foundation of data communication for the web.
DHCP: A network management protocol at the application layer of TCP/IP model. DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. With its help, an Internet Protocol IP address can be dynamically assigned to any device or node on a network.
TFTP: Stands for trivial file transfer protocol that belongs to the application layer of the TCP/IP model. TFTP uses UDP (User Datagram Protocol) as its transport layer protocol. This means it does not guarantee reliable delivery of packets or error detection and correction.
