Ocean thermal energy and geothermal energy are different types of energy. 
Ocean thermal energy is the energy that comes from the temperature difference between the warm surface water and the cold deep water. Ocean thermal energy converter (OTEC) power plants use this temperature difference to produce electricity. 
Geothermal energy is the energy that comes from the hot rock and water deep underground. Geothermal power plants use the earth's natural heat to create steam, which powers a turbine to generate electricity. 
Geothermal energy has been used for thousands of years as a source of heat and power. Geothermal plants produce power at a constant rate, regardless of weather conditions.
