English Writing Practice Test: Paraphrasing — Flashcards

Paraphrasing is restating someone else's ideas or writing in your own words. It's often used to support a point in a paper without using too many quotes. 

Here are some tips for paraphrasing:
- Make it clear that the information is from your source.
- Don't add information or commentary that isn't part of the original passage.
- If the original text refers to an idea or term discussed earlier in the text, your paraphrase may need to explain or define that idea. 

Here are some examples of paraphrasing:
Original:
Her life spanned years of incredible change for women as they gained more rights than ever before.
Paraphrase: She lived through the exciting era of women's liberation.
