Environmental engineering pumps are used to lift and force water into distribution pipes.

Pumping is needed for the following reasons:

  1. To increase the pressure of water at certain points in the distribution system
  2. To lift treated water to elevated storage tanks so it can flow automatically into the distribution system
  3. To deliver treated water to consumer taps at a reasonable pressure
  4. To increase the discharge or velocity by boosting the pressure in the water distribution network

Topics include: Types of Pumps, Centrifugal Pump, Reciprocating Pump, Well Pump, & Selection of Pumping Units.
