Cultivators: Also called tillers or tooth harrows, cultivators are machines that loosen soil, remove weeds, and distribute fertilizer. They can have rigid or spring-loaded tines or shanks. Cultivators are used for intercultural operations, such as breaking in new ground.
Harrow: A tool that can be used to control weeds in the early stages of crop growth. Harrows can also be used to incorporate crop residues after harvest.
Puddler: A rotary device that mixes and churns topsoil. Puddlers are used for puddling in wet rice fields.
Hand hoe: A manually operated tool consisting of an iron blade and a wooden handle. The operator uses the handle to cut the soil to a shallow depth of 2-3 cm.
Rotavater: An implement used for both primary and secondary tillage operations. It can also be used for puddling the field before paddy transplanting.
