Compressible flow is a branch of fluid mechanics that studies flows with significant changes in fluid density. It is usually considered when the Mach number of the flow is greater than 0.3. 

Compressible flows are high-speed flows that have velocities that are comparable to, or exceed, the speed of sound. 

Examples of compressible flows include:
Aerodynamic applications, such as flow over a wing or aircraft nacelle
Industrial applications, such as flow through high-performance valves 
In compressible flows, the pressure and the fluid density depend on the velocity magnitude relative to the celerity of sound in the fluid. The compressibility effects are often expressed in term of the Sarrau–Mach number Ma = V/Csound
