Plastic additives are substances that are added during the processing of plastics. They permeate polymers at a molecular level and help optimize the chemical, physical, or electrical properties of a material. Additives are essential for turning plastics into usable materials.

Some common additives in plastics include:
Flame retardants

These additives are added to plastic to enhance its ability to delay flames and prevent flames from spreading.

Pigments
These additives are used to impart color to the plastic.

Fillers
These additives are added to the polymer to improve its mechanical properties and reduce the cost of the plastic. Some common fillers used in plastic manufacturing include talc, calcium carbonate, and glass fibers.

Lubricants
These additives are used to improve the processing and appearance of polymers. The function of lubricants is to reduce friction, improve fluidity and mold release during resin or compound processing, and increase the surface smoothness of products.

Other additives include:
Plasticizers, Antioxidants, Acid scavengers, Light and heat stabilizers, Antistatic agents, Slip compounds, Thermal stabilizers.
