When a student is conducting a presentation, he or she will need to pull from multiple sources. This will ensure that the topic is fully covered. Also, if the student is conducting a research project, multiple sources will be used. Pulling from different sources is needed.

Riding on different trails to get cattle or for families to travel to a distant area of the country required devoting a long time by horse and wagon in the 1800s. Many families would have to prepare for long periods of time prior to the trip. For instance, families who traveled on the Oregon Trail would need to bring extra supplies like wagon wheels and axes in case one become damaged during the route. Surplus food and water needed to be in the wagon. There would be times when families hunted animals in the woods along the trail for food. Also, water was found along the trail in rivers and ponds. However, it could take days before either food or water was acquired along the trail.

In the mid-1800s, a new form of transportation was invented and created in order to allow faster movement between major cities. Many people during this time traveled by train so that they could get safely to another town or city in a rather short amount of time. Compared to traveling by horse, the traveler did not have to rely on an animal to get to another city. Over time, the cost of a train trip would become less and less, as well as trains traveling further and further across the country.

Steamships were being updated during the 1800s. Instead of using steamships to travel, cargo was usually taken on ships during this time especially when traveling along rivers. The Mississippi River was known for seeing many ships carrying supplies from merchants and companies down the river to New Orleans. However, some passengers would use steamships to cross the oceans and down major rivers.

In the early 1800s, the stagecoach was still being used by people who lived in major cities. A driver was employed to drive the stagecoach which resembled a large wagon. The customers would load their luggage on top of the coach and strap it in. Tickets would be purchased in advance to ride the stagecoach to another city. When the train and railroad systems were invented, stagecoaches finally died out. Yet, the stagecoach was used for a few hundred years prior to the 19th century.
