An awareness of history can be developed by looking at different areas, one of which is leisure time. The way we spend our leisure time has changed dramatically over the centuries. The invention of labor saving devices has ensured we have much more free time than our ancestors - we don't even need to leave the house to do the shopping! Children in elementary school will learn about how leisure time in the past differed from that of the present, which helps them to develop an awareness of the differences between life in the past and the present time.
