In English there are suffixes (letters or syllables added to the end of words) and prefixes (letters added to the beginning of words). Adding the suffix '-ly' is simple.  You can add the suffix 'ly' to words as in the sentence "The player hit the ball powerfully and easily."

Suffixes often change the function of a word.  Adding "ers" changes "garden" to "gardeners"."

How can you tell whether to suffix 'ible' or 'able'? Generally, if the word can stand alone, e.g. 'reason', add 'able'. If not, add 'ible', e.g. 'horrible'.
