An equation is a specific formula in order to find an answer.  The letter X is often used in equations. In order to solve an equation, we need to know what one of the expressions is.

Let’s look at the equation: X = 6 + 2
To solve this equation we need to add 6 + 2 and the answer is 8.  This then tells us that “X” is “8” because: 8 = 6 + 2
This shows that both expressions have the same value.
