We use feet to measure large areas instead of inches. Every twelve inches would equal a foot.  This too, however, would take some time in measuring the field.  So we use the next standard or fixed measurement referred to as a “yard”. A yard is a measurement that is equal to three (3) feet.  3 feet x 12 inches = 36 inches - therefore, a yard is equal to 36 inches.
