A geometric sequence is a series of numbers in which each preceding term or number is multiplied by the same constant number.  For example: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128

In this series, the constant number is “2” and each preceding number is multiplied by “2” as follows:

x 2 = 4
x 2 = 8
x 2 = 32
x 2 = 64
x 2 = 128

Looking at our series above, you would have 2 ÷ 1 = 2.  The number “2” was the constant number here.
