The Hazardous Waste Management Rules 2016 prohibit the export of hazardous waste to India for final disposal. India can only import hazardous waste for recycling, reuse, or other utilization. 

The hazardous waste can be disposed at captive treatment facility installed by the individual waste generators or at Common Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs). In India, there are 40 Common Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs) available in 17 States/UTs.
The Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Act 1989 regulates the import, export, and transit of hazardous waste. The act's purpose is to protect people and the environment from the harmful effects of hazardous waste. 
Hazardous waste can be disposed at captive treatment facilities installed by the individual waste generators or at Common Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs). 

Some examples of hazardous waste include:
Ignitable wastes
Corrosive wastes
Reactive wastes
Toxic wastes
Universal waste, which includes batteries, some recalled and unused pesticides, mercury, and more 

Waste generators should package hazardous waste in accordance with the following instructions:
Use a leak-proof container that will safely contain the contents
Containers must be closable
The container shall not be overfilled with liquid waste

Empty space of at least five percent of the container volume shall be left to allow for thermal expansion
