In India, The Hazardous Waste Management Rules 2016 aim to ensure the safe handling, generation, processing, treatment, package, storage, transportation, use, reprocessing, collection, conversion, and offering for sale, destruction, and disposal of hazardous waste.

Here are some hazardous waste rules:
Hazardous waste must be disposed of in secure landfills that have at least 10 feet of separation between the bottom of the landfill and the bedrock or groundwater table.
Secure landfills must have two impermeable liners and leachate collection systems.
Waste generators should package hazardous waste in leak-proof containers that are closable and do not exceed liquid waste.
Waste generators should contact Environmental Health and Safety and/or the Office of Radiation Safety to determine the proper disposal procedure for mixed waste.
Hazardous waste can be disposed of at captive treatment facilities installed by the individual waste generators or at Common Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs).
India can only import hazardous waste for recycling, reuse, or other utilization.
Import and export of hazardous waste is not permitted for dumping and disposal.
Universal waste includes batteries, some recalled and unused pesticides, mercury, and more.
