Characteristic Curves & Governing of Turbines topics include: Constant head curves, turbines governing, constant speed curves and efficient curves.

Characteristic curves are plotted from the results of tests performed on a turbine under different working conditions. They help study the turbine's performance under various conditions.

There are three types of characteristic curves in turbines:
Main Characteristic Curves or Constant Head Curve
Constant Efficiency Curve
Constant Speed Curves

Turbine manufacturers supply these curves based on actual tests. The data obtained in testing a turbine includes: Speed, Discharge, Net head, Power developed, Overall efficiency, Gate opening.

The curves are plotted from data which can be obtained from the constant head and constant speed curves.

A governor protects your turbine by:
Reducing its load or shutting it off completely in emergency situations
Providing more power in the case of high demands
