Characteristic Curves of Centrifugal Pumps topics include: Main characteristic curves, operating characteristic and constant efficiency curves.

A centrifugal pump's characteristic curve is a graph that shows how the pump moves fluids in relation to pressure levels.

The curve plots the following parameters against flow rate (Q):
Head (H)
Power input (P)
Pump efficiency (η)
NPSHR, or the NPSH required by the pump

The curve shows the flow rate on the x-axis and the head on the y-axis. The curve shows that the head gradually decreases with increasing flow. In a steep centrifugal pump curve, the arch of the curve is steeper, resulting in a larger pressure (head) decrease as the flow increases.
Characteristic curves are plotted from the result of a test on the centrifugal pumps. It helps to predict the behavior and performance of the pump when the pump is working under different flow rates, head and speed.
