A turbine is a mechanical device that converts the energy of a fluid flow into useful work. When combined with a generator, the work produced by a turbine can be used to generate electrical power.
Turbines work by passing a fluid through a system of stationary passages or vanes, alternating with passages with finlike blades attached to a rotor. The force of the fluid on the blades spins the rotor shaft of a generator, which then converts the mechanical energy of the rotor into electrical energy. 

Turbines can be used for a wide range of applications. There are many different types of turbines, including:
Steam turbines
Combustion (gas) turbines
Hydroelectric turbines
Wind turbines
