A medication manager administers or supervises the self-administration of non-parenteral medications in residential programs, child care programs, supervised apartment living, or community-based living.

To become a certified medication manager in Iowa, you must complete a 20-hour course approved by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) and pass a DIA-approved exam. The course is available at community colleges, health care facilities, training institutions, and provider associations.

The course consists of 17 classroom hours, 11 hours of classroom medication manager, and 3 clinical or laboratory hours. The clinical or laboratory hours are provided by the student's employe
