Advanced materials:
Materials with engineered properties created through specialized processing and synthesis technology. These materials include electronic materials, ceramics, polymers, high value-added metals, composites, and biomaterials.
Aluminum: A versatile engineering and construction material that is light in mass, yet some of its alloys have strengths greater than those of structural steel. It has high resistance to corrosion under most applications.
Cast iron: Cast iron has a relatively low melting point, good fluidity, castability, and excellent machinability.
Composites: A multiphase product made using two or more existing materials. Composites are engineered materials, comprising of metals, ceramics, glasses and polymers.
Ceramics: Ceramics find wide use in industries due to their excellent power of resistance to heat and chemicals.
Smart materials: Engineered materials with intrinsic or embedded sensor and actuator functions.
Copper: Copper (and its alloys) is a common engineering material used for a wide range of applications. The properties that make it suitable are its high electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength, high corrosion resistance, as well as good machinability and ductility.
