Automatic control systems maintain process variables, such as temperature, pressure, flow, and composition, at the desired operating value. 

Here are some examples of automatic control machines:
Programmable logic controller (PLC): An automatic controlling system that can replace hard-wired relay logic systems for machine control. It can be used as a process control system or distribution control system for industrial automation.
Industrial robots: Multipurpose manipulator machines that are automatically controlled and reprogrammable. They can be used for welding, painting, ironing, assembling, pick and place, palletizing, product inspection, and testing.
Control panel: A flat, vertical apparatus that displays control or monitoring instruments. Control panels are part of a process automation system.
Process control: A branch of automatic control that focuses on the theory and technology to operate industrial processes safely and efficiently.
SCADA: An automated system used in industries with complex processes to manage and monitor the control of the automated processes. SCADA system components include computers, controllers, interfaces, networks, instruments, sensors, and actuators.
Distributed control system: A digitally automated industrial control system that uses geographically distributed control loops throughout a factory, plant, machine, or control area. This system is used to control industrial processes and increase their safety, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
