A simple mechanism is a mechanical device that uses mechanical advantage to multiply force and change the direction or magnitude of a force. A mechanism with four links is considered a simple mechanism. 

Here are some examples of simple mechanisms:
Lever:
A rigid body that can rotate on a point on itself. A lever is a bar or board that rests on a support called a fulcrum. A downward force exerted on one end of the lever can be transferred and increased in an upward direction at the other end.
Pulley: A simple machine that transmits energy and motion. A pulley contains a wheel that holds a flexible rope, chain, cord, or belt. A simple pulley allows lifting a weight easily with the use of a rope and wheels.
Gears: Circular mechanical devices with teeth that mesh to transmit rotation across axes. Gears can be used to change the output speed of a shaft, decrease or increase the speed or torque of a drive shaft, and determine the output torque of the system.

Wheel and axle
Screw
Wedge 

A compound machine is a machine consisting of two or more simple machines.
