The NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) exam consists of 70 multiple-choice questions (60 scored, 10 pilot) covering PV design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance based on NEC standards. Questions include complex, field-experience-based scenarios, NEC code calculations, safety practices, and O&M of older equipment.

Key Question Topics and Content:
NEC Code Applications (Article 690 & 705):
Calculations for voltage drop, conductor sizing, grounding methods, and overcurrent protection.
System Design & Performance: Calculating inverter sizing, string sizing, shading analysis, and derate factors.
Installation Practices: Mounting techniques, racking systems, and equipment grounding (e.g., grounding electrode system).
Commissioning & Troubleshooting: Insulation resistance testing, Voc/Isc testing, and interpreting inverter fault codes.
Safety: OSHA requirements and PPE.

Example Question Types:
Math:
Calculating AC output for a 15 kW system with a 0.90 derate factor after 5 years of 2% annual degradation.
Code: Identifying appropriate grounding methods for ground-mounted arrays according to NEC Article 690.
Field Scenario: Determining the cause of low insulation resistance in a 3-year-old system.
