Organic compounds that contain halogens are also known as alkyl halides or haloalkanes. They are compounds where one or more hydrogen atoms in hydrocarbons are replaced by halogen atoms.

C-X Bond Polarity: The carbon-halogen bond is polar, with the halogen being more electronegative.
Reactivity: Alkyl halides are very reactive compounds, and they undergo many halogenation reactions.
Reactions: Alkyl halides generally undergo substitution or elimination reactions. 

Some examples of organic compounds containing halogens include:
Benzylic halides: These compounds contain a carbon-halogen bond, where the carbon atom is bonded to a hydrogen and a halogen. They are important intermediates in many chemical reactions, and they have many applications in industry.
Dichloromethane: This is a natural organic compound with a sweet odor and a colorless liquid. It is miscible in a wide range of organic solvents and is a useful solvent in chemical processes. 

Halogenated compounds can contaminate the water, soil, and air, as well as plants and animals. They can also harm the ozone layer.
