Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) systems are power conversion methods that use a magnetic field and a moving fluid to generate electricity. The word "magnetohydrodynamics" comes from the words "magneto-" meaning magnetic field, "hydro-" meaning liquid, and "-dynamic" meaning movement. 

The efficiency of an MHD generator depends on the strength of the magnetic field and the conductivity of the plasma. The type of MHD generator used depends on the fuel and application.
