Technical writing is the process of communicating information between multiple parties through a variety of mediums. The goal of technical writing is to explain how something works or provide instructions on how to do something. 

Technical writing can include: 
White papers, Instruction manuals, Handbooks, Product descriptions, Press releases, Reports, Briefs, Business proposals, Memos, Datasheets. 
Technical writing can be made up of five components: Purpose, Target audience, Content, Organization, Style. 

The seven Cs of communication can be used as a checklist for written and spoken messages: 
Clear, Concise, Concrete, Correct, Coherent, Complete, Courteous.
