Here are some tips for solving ratio and proportion problems:
- Read the ratio correctly: For example, 2 pink to 6 red should be expressed as 2:6, not 6:2.
- Note the units in your calculations
- The ratio between two quantities should be of the same kind
- When comparing two ratios, their units must be similar
- If the ratios are equal like a fraction, then only comparison of 2 ratios can be performed
- In ratio, if both the antecedent and the consequent are multiplied or divided by the same number (except 0) then the ratio will remain the same
- Write the ratios in their three different forms
- Set up a proportion
- Cross-multiply to find the missing value
