Extraterrestrial radiation varies based on the distance between the sun and Earth, which changes due to Earth's elliptical orbit. However, extraterrestrial radiation is not affected by changes in atmospheric conditions.
Extraterrestrial radiation is the main source of terrestrial solar radiation. A small amount of the absorbed radiation drives mass-transport processes that redistribute thermal energy on Earth's surface. These processes include wind, water currents, and waves.
