Solar thermo-mechanical systems convert solar energy into thermal energy, which is then used to power mechanical systems. The mechanical energy is then converted into usable forms like electricity.  Solar thermal systems are renewable technologies that use solar thermal panels to heat water and air spaces. 
Concentrating solar thermal (CST) technology is a promising renewable energy solution for sustainable power production.

How solar thermal energy works:
Capture sunlight:
Solar thermal technologies capture sunlight using flat or parabolic collectors. These collectors use mirrors and lenses to concentrate the sunlight.
Heat fluid: The captured sunlight heats a fluid, which is then transferred to heat water.
Produce steam: The heated water produces steam.
Spin a turbine: The steam spins a turbine, producing mechanical energy. 

Three main types of concentrating solar thermal power systems:
Linear concentrating systems, which include parabolic troughs and linear Fresnel reflectors
Solar power towers
Solar dish/engine systems
