The FINRA SIE Exam (Securities Industry Essentials) is an entry-level, 75-question, 105-minute, computer-based test covering basic industry knowledge for anyone 18+. It tests fundamental concepts like product risks, market structure, and regulatory agencies. The equity section focuses on ownership rights, dividends, and, sometimes, convertible features. 

Key Aspects of the SIE Exam: Equities
Ownership Rights:
Understanding that equity holders (stockholders) are part-owners of a corporation, with voting rights and limited liability.
Types of Equities: Knowledge of common stock and preferred stock, including, in some cases, the convertible feature of preferred stock.
Dividends: Rules regarding dividends, including that they are not guaranteed and must be declared by the board of directors.
Liquidation Priority: Understanding the order of claims on assets, with equity holders (common stock) at the bottom.
Regulations: Familiarity with SEC Rule 144 regarding control and restricted securities. 

Exam Structure and Requirements
Format:
75 multiple-choice questions (plus 10 unscored pretest questions).
Passing Score: 70% or higher.
Validity: Valid for 4 years.
Requirements: No sponsorship is required to take the exam. 

Section Weighting
The exam is divided into four main sections: 
Knowledge of Capital Markets (16%)
Understanding Products and Their Risks (44%)
Understanding Trading, Customer Accounts & Prohibited Activities (31%)
Overview of the Regulatory Framework (9%)
