In thermodynamics, work and heat are two fundamental concepts used to analyze energy transfer. 

Heat and work are two different ways of transferring energy between systems. Heat is associated with the random motion of particles, while work is associated with ordered motion in one direction. 
The first law of thermodynamics can be used to analyze the relationship between work and heat. The formula for internal energy is: 
ΔU = Q + W 
Where:
ΔU: is the internal energy
Q: is the heat added to the system
W: is the work done by the system 

The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that work can be fully converted into heat, but heat can't be fully converted into work. 
Heat can travel from one place to another in three ways: conduction, convection, and radiation. Both conduction and convection require matter to transfer heat. 

Heat and work are applied in many real-life situations, including:
Using a refrigerator
Cooking on a stovetop
Drinking a hot or cold beverage
Sunbathing on a sunny day
