Instructions for Question No. 71 to 75 : Read the following paragraph and answer the five questions which follows : A researcher in intelligence and human abilities, after a careful scrutiny of various abilityrelated tests, located 48 ability tests and tasks which presumably provide a comprehensive description of human abilities. He administered these tools to a sufficiently large sample (N = 720) and obtained the intercorrelations among the 48 tests/tasks. The researcher wanted to factor analyse these tests. Retaining unities in the diagonal spaces of the 48 × 48 correlation matrix, the unrotated factors were extracted. Using various criteria for deciding the number of factors for rotation including Cattell's scree, eight factors were retained. The eight factors, together, condensed 71 percent of variance. The eight factors were rotated by following a suitable method and the resulting interfactor correlation matrix was examined. Several of the inter-factor correlations were fairly high. The secondorder factor analysis was, then, carried out which yielded two nearly orthogonal factors.71.
